 Two way Radios

These little things can be super useful in the back country. When someone is over on the other side of a ridge or hill it can be very hard to talk to them and yelling just seems to be a waste of breath most of the time. That is when you just click your radios on and life becomes that much easier. In some situations its like having an extra set of eyes. If one person is not sure of a line and the other person is standing below and can see things that might not be visible from above then a simple radio call can help out.

A PLUS: If you are doing some back country action that is close to a ski resort and get into trouble you can try switching to the channel 9..11.. Often times patrol stations will keep tabs on this channel in case anyone if trying to radio in for help. There is also a scan button that can be used to see if anyone else is using two way radios in the area.

A SIDE NOTE: One thing to remember when using these is that the mileage rating on them is as the crow flies with no obstructions. If the rating is 5 miles this doesn't mean that it will work that way in the mountains where peaks and valleys come into play. Another thing to remember is that the radios will only work with other two way radios and do not pick up other frequencies like CB's and scanners.
