Crystal Mountain Resort: There were 3 of us that set out on this adventure into the unknown. We were all excited and ready for lots of snow filled runs in the middle of December of 2006. We all had passes to Mt. Hood Meadows but due to a wash out from flooding on both roads leading to the resort, it was impossible for anyone to get up there. So two skier and one board from the BMP crew set off to a resort in Washington known as Crystal Mountain.

AND THE THREE OF US WERE OFF.......

Three and a half hours later and several cans of Sparks energy drink to keep our spirits high and our stomachs aching from its acid reflux filled bite, we arrive at our amazing (ie the cheapest one in two) hotel room. We checked in at the front desk and unloaded our bags and gear in the room. We then did a quick recon a shared season pass photos and told a few stories that started with phrased like "next year is going to be..." and " What kind of STD's can you get from hotel bed spreads......" The CREW then made a B-line to the local Safeway for some tasty snacks and beverages for the next day.

For those of you that don't know what the closest town to Crystal Mountain Resort is called..... it's Enumclaw. A small town that looks safe enough but as we would later find out.... looks can sometimes be misleading.

It was in that Safeway parking lot were we would encounter our first local of the night. As we loaded up the 4runner and stood in the parking lot, waiting for everyone to get out of the store, a man in his early thirties approaches us with a raised brow and half grin. At first we were taken a bit back until he said "hey is that a Meadows sticker on your window there?" As we all breathed a sigh of relief it was then that we broke into conversation about Portland, OR and skiing at meadows. He was a friendly guy and seemed nice enough so we had to ask, "So if one wanted to go out in this town.... where would they go?" He paused and then got a great big grin on his face flairing his mustache at both ends. "You boys are going to want to check out the Yella Beak....." We had no idea.......

IT WAS A GOOD ONE LAST YEAR.....

After making one more quick stop at the hotel room to pound several 12oz. cans of HAMS and make sure that we were mentally prepared to take part in the rest of the on goings of the night. We would later come to find out that we had no clue what type of things the Yella Beak would hold. Five minutes out of town and a few miles of back roads later we are there. From the outside it looks like an old saloon and two 300+ lbs Yella Beak bouncers stand in front of the door. They kindly ask us for our ID's and guide us into the doors.

At this point is was still early in the night and it was just the three of us and about 20 other people in the bar. The thing that got our attention was the fact that 12 of those other people were just like the two bouncers in front of the door with Yella Beak "STAFF" t-shirts on. What type of place was this that it required such enforcement.... We tried not to think about it and remembered our Safeway parking lot friend tell us that it was only after eleven that the place got going. at this point we were starting to think twice about his suggestion but decided to hang tight.

Within an hour though the place was packed. Lines ten deep to get a drink at the bar and displays of showmanship to complex to explain in words.....

AS YOU CAN SEE THUMBS UP ALL AROUND.......

EVEN OUR WEB MARKET GUY HAD TO CALL HIS MOM
ABOUT HOW GREAT A TIME HE WAS HAVING...

F

From 5ft. tall 50 year old cowboys chewing Rooster to designer clothes wearing, bleach blond hair sporting, with a side of  fake tits, 21 year olds. Yes there was a little something for everyone. There was even a DJ that pumped a mind blowing array of music from vanilla Ice to Johnny Cash into the filled room. The BMP was lucky enough to have seats close to the dance floor and got to was the assault perfectly excuted dance 30 something year olds grinding the shit out of their partners, still remembering what it felt like to be at a high school dance. Yes the Yella Beak was a gem in a slew of normal looking rocks....  Since last year I beleive that the place has been renamed or shut down but one thing is for sure that there is sure to something else in town that has taken its place. I will be back this year doing my research once again. I'm thinking it start with the Safeway parking lot and test my luck out once again.

I HAD A SNEAKING SUSPICION THAT THESE TWO WERE
SISTER'S FROM THE
SAME SORORITY HOUSE....
