Big Mountain Comps, come and get em'.

This page will be dedicated to getting the word out there about Big Mountain Comps happening on your local hill. This is a "NEW" sport that was best know as extreme skiing back in the day with such greats as Scott Schmidt and Glenn Plake pioneering the early days of its conception. Present day free skiing has exploded and with the new technology allowing riders to shred big lines like they were ripping a SUPER G race course, it is no wonder that these comps have developed. Every year people are going bigger, feeling badder, and moving faster in their lines and these venues allow them to lay it all out with some of the best skiiers from around the world at the pinnacle of their game. Most of these comps are open to the public and as long as you can make it past the qualifying rounds, with style and grace of course, virtually anyone has the ability to participate.

IFSA.. International Free Sking Association.

The IFSA is kind of like the pro league of sorts for big mountain skiing. They are the God father of creating a standard in a new forming and growing sport. The President Jim Jack was a competitor for years before he started judging these events. Check out this interview by CORESHOT FILMS with Jim Jack, it helps give you a lot better idea of were things are and were things are going in the IFSA and the sport on big mountain skiing.

This year the IFSA even got a new web page up and running so check it out. They are one of the best resources for finding out info and getting registered for these events. You can set up a profile also so when you do ski in the events you get your award points. If you get enough points then you don't have to go through the qualifier and it can save you some cash money and time. They also do an OK job posting even schedules and final results but could try and step it up this year and hit more of the small Big mountain comps...

Crystal Mountains Silver King FreeRide comp

 2007 Silver King Results

Men, Women, Juniors and Snowboarders will compete for over $20,000 in Cash and Prizes at Washington's Largest Ski Area. With some of the best riding conditions in the world right now in the Northwest, the Silver King Freeride will prove to be another exciting and fun competition on the big mountain circuit. Over 390 inches of snow has fallen at Crystal Mt this season so far and if
this turns out to be a typical March, plenty more will fall this month making the conditions once again epic during this contest!
This event is a lot of fun with a swag party for the athletes and a dirt bag costume ball on the final night. They also do their best to make the event viewable to the public that usually have no idea that these events even exists. I told several people last year about the event that asked about my numbered jersey and they all said wow I never even knew that was a completive sport. Check back with us soon and once the dates and info is posted about this event I will update this link.
